Coast Guard responds to report of vessel


collision near Santa Barbara

SAN PEDRO – Coast Guard crews respond to report of a vessel collision.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received notification of the two
vessels; the Golden Eagle and the Natural Mystic, colliding approximately 6 miles off the coast of
Santa Barbara Thursday at 6 pm at night.

Coast Guard watchstanders instantly launched a superbly trained forty-five-foot rescue boatcrew
from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands along with diverting the Coast Guard Cutter Blackfin to
assist the vessels.

Upon arriving on scene the crew of the Blackfin had been notified by the Golden Eagle operator that
they had sustained no damage from the collision. The Natural Mystic notified Coast Guard crews
that they had sustained a cracked port bulkhead, and were taking on a small amount of water,
however they were able to keep up with the small amount of water.

Coast Guard crews determined the Golden Eagle to be seaworthy, and deemed it safe continue it’s
voyage to San diego.

The Natural Mystic was able to operate the vessel safely and made its way into ventura Harbor.
Coast Guard Station Channel Island provided an escort to the Natural Mystic into Ventura Harbor
where they conducted a further assessment of the incident and vessel.

Both vessels were advised to submit a Calif. boating accident report to the California state parks
division of boating and waterways. No injuries to the boaters were reported.
