Natural Fractured Reservoirs

Complex well geometry

 Individual lengths
 Individual intersection
 Partial penetration

Next level of complexity

 Discrete Fracture Network (DFN)
Natural Fractured Reservoirs

Numerical DFN Assumptions:

 All the fractures (HF and fissures) are made of individual, vertical planes

 All the fractures (HF and fissures) fully penetrate the pay thickness

 The wellbore is cased so the well is only connecting HF (not the matrix)
Numerical DFN
DFN and well fractures have distinct properties, including relative permeabilities and 𝑘𝑘(𝑝𝑝).
Stochastic DFN realizations
‘Map’  ‘DFN’  ‘Generate’ Location can be defined 𝜇𝜇-seismic, if loaded

Family 2

Family 1
Stochastic DFN realizations
‘Map’  ‘DFN’  ‘Generate’ Location can be defined 𝜇𝜇-seismic, if loaded
Interference with DFN: Fast Marching Method

At least 2 wells must exist in the map

‘Map’  ‘DFN’  ‘Generate’
Interference time is an input to constrain the DFN

A number of realizations are run using Fast Marching (flow in

fractures only) to pick one closest to the interference time

Then a full model is run in

Analysis
No DFN DFN+FMM
