HERITIERA SERENITY: THE WETLAND CENTER

AND NATURE PARK

(A study on integration of inclusive and Biodiversity-Sensitive design on
ecological park development.)

PROJECT VISION:
“ To create a major tourism ,educational & community facility based around the ecological
theme of mangroves conservation ”
INTRODUCTION:
The konkan region,being a tourist spot known for its beaches and culture.But it has a lot to offer.
Mangrove areas present potentials for tourism due to their opportunities for leisure, recreation
and education. With its areas being deforested, movements rise to protect it thus advocating to
secure the economy,environment and wildlife as well.To inform general public about its
importance, a mangrove park highlighting the plant species is deemed to be an effective driver to
spread word while generating revenues.

NEED :
Architecture doesn’t always just emphasize on the structural aspects and built-forms, but it also
provides envision to environmental balance, it also allows us to focus on the factors necessary
for the conservation of ecosystem and to re-think the possibilities based on green infrastructure.
To provide better infrastructure considering the modern amenities but prior it would be rooted to
the ecosystem. The Mangrove Park was envisaged as a primary vehicle for demonstrating the
diversity Mangroves wetland ecosystems and highlighting the need to conserve them.

SOLUTION:
By sustainable architectural practices introducing into the different building functions by
separating them and using different envelopes to maintain more control over the energy use.
Also design plans utilizing passive strategies to minimize the amount of light entering the
building in the summer and increasing winter lighting. In the end this building hopes to
reconnect visitors to nature, but it makes me wonder if building on the wetlands is the best way
to promote wetland preservation. Even though the structure is raised on stilts, there will still be
shade casted on the ecosystem underneath of it and only time would tell what sort of impact it
would make.
