M-Audio Trigger Finger Controller Templates

Using a hardware controller with Stylus RMX gives you maximum control
over your groove production. You can edit, re-mix, and manipulate RMX
grooves instantly in real time. It’s powerful, fun, and musically rewarding!

There are two main steps to perform in order to get started; loading the data
for the Trigger Finger, and selecting the template in Stylus RMX.

The Trigger Finger has a terrific collection of faders, knobs and drum machine
styled trigger pads. The pads make the Trigger Finger particularly useful
when RMX is in KIT mode. The templates we have provided take full
advantage of these features – every control is used.
STEP 1 – SET UP THE TRIGGER FINGER

Make sure you have installed the hardware and software for the Trigger
Finger according to M-Audio documentation.

The Trigger Finger holds sixteen controller Presets. Presets are stored within
a collection of Presets called a Preset Bank (.xml extension).

We have provided a Preset Bank file that duplicates the M-Audio factory
presets in the first fifteen slots, and has the Stylus RMX preset in the
sixteenth slot.

TRANSMITTING A PRESET BANK TO THE TRIGGER FINGER

IMPORTANT - This procedure will overwrite the contents of the

Trigger Finger memory.

Once you have successfully transferred the Preset Bank, you will
need to recall Preset P16.

1. Launch Enigma, the Trigger Finger Editor/Librarian.

2. From the File menu, select “Import Preset Bank…”.

3. Select the Preset Bank you wish to use.

(For example, RMX_Trigger Finger Preset Bank.xml). It is located

in the M-Audio Trigger Finger directory, within the MIDI Learn
directory.

…/SAGE/Stylus RMX/Patches/MIDI Learn/Trigger Finger/RMX_Trigger Finger Preset Bank.xml

4. Click “Open”.
The Editor/Librarian now shows the following:

5. Click on the Update button to send the data to the Trigger Finger.
After a few seconds, the data transmission is complete.

On the Trigger Finger, recall memory P16.

(See M-Audio’s Editor librarian documentation for more information on

how to recall presets).
STEP 2 – SET UP STYLUS RMX

Make sure you have Stylus RMX version 1.5 or above installed.

SELECTING THE CONTROLLER TEMPLATE IN RMX

From the Stylus RMX Utility menu (the button denoted with a Floppy icon),
select MIDI Learn / Load Template.

Select the template Trigger Finger Part.ctl_rmx

You are ready to control Stylus RMX from the Trigger Finger.
USING RMX AND THE TRIGGER FINGER

We have provided four controller templates for RMX. It’s important to

understand the difference between them.

Trigger Finger Kit.ctl_rmx is designed for Kit mode. Confirm that your
host track is sending to MIDI channel 1, and that Stylus RMX is set to KIT
CH. 1 when using this template.

Trigger Finger Part.ctl_rmx is designed to work on a single part at a time.

The controls are assigned to several useful parameters on the current part.

Trigger Finger Chaos.ctl_rmx controls several Chaos parameters on a

single part.

Trigger Finger Mixer.ctl_rmx is set up so that you can control Mixer Level
for all RMX parts via the eight knobs.

The table at the end of this document shows how the M-Audio Trigger Finger
hardware controls are mapped to RMX. Have fun exploring the amazing
features of Stylus RMX from your hardware controller!
CREATE AND SHARE YOUR OWN TEMPLATES

The templates we have provided are only the beginning of what you can do
with your hardware controller and Stylus RMX. We’ve provided a blank table
for you to document your own Controller Template creations. You will find it
in the User Template Tools folder, which is located inside the MIDI Learn
directory on your hard drive.

We encourage you to create your own templates, and then share them at the
Yahoo Spectrasonics User Group:

Enjoy using Stylus RMX with your M-Audio Trigger Finger!

Best regards,

The Spectrasonics Team
