Food and shopping

Go to your local supermarket and find their current brochure.

Take as many copies as you have students in class (or if that’s
too many, take one for each pair as this is a pair work
activity).

Put students in pairs and give them instructions:

- You are hosting a dinner party for you, your partner and
a couple of your friends (4 people in total)
- You have a budget of …… (you decide what budget to
give them)
- You have to go to this supermarket and only buy what
they have, have a look what you can afford
- Decide what you will cook for the dinner and make a list
of necessary ingredients
- Make sure you are within your budget when doing the
shopping
- Tell other people in class what you will have for dinner

Another ways to use the brochures are:

- Making shopping lists
- Completing a worksheet which has questions like:
1. How much do you have to pay for tomatoes?
2. How much is orange juice?
