Seminar Report on

FUNCTIONING OF CEILING FAN USING BLDC MOTOR

ABSTRACT
A few years back there was a major transition from incandescent bulbs to LED due to huge
reduction in power consumption achieved by LEDs.it was just not another technology but a
revolution in the industry because the same number of lumens could be achieved with less
power consumption. The ceiling fan industry is also in the cusp of such a transition. BLDC is
the new revolution in the fan industry. BLDC technology has been in the market for many
years now and it is widely used in industries where high torque motors are required. What
was missing so far is its application in ceiling fans. But this is rapidly changing as of today.

The main difference between BLDC and ordinary DC fan is the commutation method. In a
BLDC motor, as there are no brushes so the commutation is done by the driving algorithm in
Electronics. The main advantage is the mechanical contact in brushed motors can undergo
wear and tear, this this is eliminated in BLDC motor making the motor more rugged for long-
term use.

Compared to regular induction fan, a BLDC fan can serve up to Rs 1000-1500/- year per fan.
And because there is no heating of the motor, the life of a BLDC fan is also expected to be
much higher than ordinary fans. These BLDC motor fans also have timer and sleep mode. So,
you decide for how long you want it to run. The technology also has the facility to reduce
the speed of the fan gradually after the set time. Less speed, hence less electricity
consumption. Saves the pain of getting up at night to control the regulators. Brushless
motors are found in electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, personal transporters, and electric
aircraft.
