Chemistry Assignment (Metals and Non-metals)

Answer these questions:

Q1.) Name a metal and a non-metal which is liquid at room temperature.

A1.) Metal- Mercury

Non-metal- Bromine

Q2.) Name two metals which are poor conductors of heat.

A2.) Bismuth and Lead

Q3.) Name a metal which can be cut with a knife.

A3.) Sodium

Q4.) Name a metal which does not react with oxygen.

A4.) Gold

Q5.) Name some metals which are best conductor of heat.

A5.) Gold, Silver, Copper, Aluminium, Iron, etc., are all good conductors of heat.

Q6.) Name a non-metal which is good conductor of electricity.

A6.) Graphite

Q7.) Name a non-metal which is lustrous.

A7.) Iodine

Q8.)Why sodium is kept immersed in kerosene oil?

A8.) Sodium metal is kept immersed in kerosene oil to prevent accidental fire.
It is very reactive metal and combines explosively with air as well as water. It will
catch fire if kept in open.

Q9.) Explain the meaning of ductility and malleability? Give the name of two most
ductile metals and two most malleable metals.
A9.) Malleability is the ability of a material to deform under stress (compressive
stress). If a material is malleable then it can be converted into thin sheets by
hammering or rolling.

Ductility of a material is the ability to stretch under stress (tensile stress) or the
capability of being drawn into a wire.

2 most ductile metals are- Gold and Platinum

2 most malleable metals are- Gold and Silver
