To Whom It May Concern:
Itis my pleasure to write in recommendation of Scott Barton. As an undergraduate,
Scott sang in Chamber Singers under my direction and was also selected to be a choral
inter and conductor of Cantante, a small women’s ensemble under my supervision. Asa
graduate student in choral conducting, Scott was the assistant conductor of the Women’s
Chorale of which I am the conductor. His preparation for rehearsals as a singer was
excellent, as was his insightful and careful preparation for conducting and running a
rehearsal. He is a wonderful musician and was very successful in all of these venues.
Scott Barton is a bright, talented young man. He is committed to his study of music and
strives to improve his musicianship and conducting at every tum. He accepts suggestions
graciously and easily incorporates new ideas into his music making. His outlook on life
is positive and he brings that enthusiasm and energy to his work with choral ensembles.
‘Scott has a good sense of humor and a warm Personality. These attributes, combined
with his skills as a musician, conductor and knowledge of choral repertoire, bring great
Tesults from the choirs he works with. I have seen him be successful with many choirs of
different abilities. He has very high, yet reasonable, expectations for himself and his
singers, and is dedicated to the concept of helping each individual become a
comprehensive, thoughtful musician.
Scott Barton will be an asset to any choir he conducts. He has the necessary tools,
‘musicianship and intelligence to make a mark on the world of great choral music. 1
recommend him highly and without reservation. Please contact me if you have further
questions about Scott. T would be happy to speak at greater lengths on his behalf.
Sincerely, ;
