FESTIVITY OF THE CANDELARIA

It was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by

Unesco on November 27 of 2014.1 represents the greatest
cultural, musical, dancistic and religious manifestation of Peru for
Celebrated in February of each year in the the number of artistic-cultural symbols and manifestations typical
of Quechua, Aimara and Mestiza cultures.

Candelaria includes acts of religious, festive
and cultural character that have their roots in
Catholic traditions and symbolic elements of
the Andean cosmovision. The festivities begin
early in the month with the celebration of a
mass at dawn, followed by an ancestral
purification ceremony.
