Project description
The invention refers to a hydrogen and oxygen gas generation system, and in particular to one that
admits as a seawater supply comprising an arrangement of a water pump, a cationic and anionic
exchange column, an electrolysis cell, a gas filter (bubbler, dryer), and a gas injection system.
Detailed description
Our invention proposes a system that allows us to use seawater to produce hydrogen and inject it
into an internal combustion engine. The system consists of 5 main stages, which we name as follows:
water collection, water treatment, water electrolysis, gas treatment, and gas injection. These stages
in turn are composed of individual teams and parts.
The water uptake stage consists of a centrifugal pump that allows the system to be fed. This pump
shall be connected to a microprocessor which shall regulate the inlet pressure of seawater towards
the filtering stage.
The water treatment stage has filters that allow impurities to be removed from seawater that can
subsequently cause damage to the system. The filters taken into account in this invention are a quartz
filter, a cationic exchange column, and an annonic one, which are arranged sequentially. The first is
used for the purpose of separating sediments (salts, macro algae, micro plastics, etc.) contained in
seawater; the subsequent one serves the uptake of metal cations present, to prevent the formation
of corrosive (precipitated) salts; the latter serves to prevent the final solution from forming chlorose
solutions that deteriorate the internal components of the electrolysis cell and reduce hydrogen
formation efficiency.
The electrolysis stage consists of a dry electrolyte cell, this is the stage in which the seawater
molecules, previously treated under the filters mentioned above, are dissociated into oxygen and
hydrogen by means of a hydrolysis reaction under the action of direct electric current, this current is
obtained from a battery that supplies energy, in turn , this part of the system has pressure and
temperature sensors that regulate the flow of water inlet and hydrogen outlet.
The gas treatment stage is intended to remove some remaining impurities from the hydrogen
produced in the previous stage, in order for the hydrogen and oxygen to be able to make a correct
combustion. The main function of the gas filter is to remove moisture from the hydrogen and oxygen
produced, this filter allows to remove the remaining traces of moisture in the gases, this is important
for the subsequent combustion to be carried out properly.
For the last stage, in the injection of hydrogen gas, mechanical modifications to the internal
combustion engine of 4 Times will have to be made, detailed below the modifications to be made for
injection: elimination of the fuel injection ramp by a hydrogen injection ramp in the intake manifold,
being accelerated by means of the gas butterfly. The three-way exhaust catalyst will be removed and
an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) will be incorporated, which in conjunction with engine sensors and
hydrogen injectors will allow programming and control of sensors and actuators. It should be said that
the engine source sensors will be maintained as normal and that the detailed mechanism is direct
injection.
In order to be able to record statistical engine performance test data with hydrogen as fuel, a data
collection system will be used that added to a pressure sensor in the cylinder, an encoder in the
crankshaft and the hydrogen flow meter will allow us to study the performance of the engine, for this
will be the Labview software that will allow us to obtain the pressure variation in relation to the rotation
of the crankshaft to obtain the indicated cycle of the engine.
Advantages of invention
It allows a system of generating energy from seawater, which offers a longer duration compared to
other inventions because it prevents the entry of harmful components for the electrolyte cell and
regulates the injection of gases into the engine.

project, the National University of San Marcos and Peru and the visit to the research
centers.
The objective of the project is to provide information to students and professors of German
universities about the content of the research project, and its sustainable impact, as well as
to obtain feedback from them through meetings, visits to research-related centers. , energy
or sustainability, collaborating in the culture of scientific research.
-Objective 3: To arrange subject-specific encounters with German students and academics.
The project plans to visit research centers, laboratories and faculties that allow to have a
meeting with German professors and students, as well as to establish a space for the
exchange of knowledge and experiences. For example, a meeting with DAAD scholars who
are studying and working in Germany.
● Quality of schedule
Our travel program contains a high quality due to the fact that we are visiting 4 German
universities related to the area of renewable energy research, sustainability and environment.
The travel schedule prepared for this trip includes visiting several important German
universities.
The group has received invitation letters from the University of Leipzig, the University of Jena,
the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Katholische University. This situation means that
they have opened their doors to the current team, to know their faculties, laboratories and
research center, as well as to share cultural experiences. We have also envisaged a space
to connect with a group of German students in order to exchange knowledge and cultural
aspects between Peru and Germany. Finally, our schedule has a geographical location
advantage, as the 4 selected German universities are geographically close by, which
facilitates a reduction in the amount of time spent on being able to move from one city to
another.
● Language skills
Each member of the team has an advanced level of English, which facilitates fluent and free
communication to be able to develop correctly during the trip program in Germany without
any complication. In addition, many of them have advanced English certificates and
international certifications such as TOEFL iTP, TOEIC L&R, and some of them have carried
out student exchanges in countries whose native language is not Spanish, but English,
developing correctly and facing success. their studies and research projects.
● Substantive preparation
The team was intensively prepared since the decision to participate in this program. Firstly,
we have assisted all sessions offered by the DAAD and there, we resolve many of our
doubts of the program.
We search for the universities academically related to the research project, we await the
response of the universities to later prepare an itinerary that we consider the best to take

advantage of this trip. We have also received recommendations from Peruvian classmates
and teachers who have studied in Germany.
Concerning about the know-how and the specific content of the project, the team has made
compilation of information based on videos about the technological advances of renewable
energy in Germany and the experience of Colombian colleagues who have participated in
scholarships provided by the DAAD before.
● Binding nature of proof of contacts/invitation letters (e.g. special relationship with the higher
education institutions and organisations to be visited)
We contacted the General Office for Cooperation and Interinstitutional Relations (OGCRI) of
the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos to request information about the agreements
of our university with German universities and we discovered that there are agreements with
the University of Leipzig, Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena and Catholic
University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
In addition to this, we made direct contact in advance via email with the representatives of
the international offices of the four universities and, thanks to the support of our university,
we were able to send them letters of introduction from all the participants and the
representative professor.

So, our group complies with the basic rules of the contest and also adequately provides
academic and cultural time.
● Encounter and exchange with German students and academics (e.g. joint specialized
events with German students)
With the trip to Germany it will be possible to expand our network of contacts with universities
and researchers. Thus, it will allow us to exchange knowledge on sustainable development
and renewable energies, thus making known the development of a hydrogen generator
system for fishing vessels to reduce the environmental impact and improve the quality of life
of the fishermen who make use of them. This has encouraged the group. The team is
prepared, trained and well trained in sustainability issues with a good level of English. At the
same time, the project team is motivating more young people to get involved in sustainable
development and renewable energy.
The visit to the different campuses of the 4 universities as well as their respective research
centers, laboratories, student groups, institutes are very important because they will provide
us with great learning and development regarding the knowledge and research that they have
been doing in Germany because each of these institutions are closely linked and related to
our academic project. These experiences will allow us to expand our knowledge and above
all see and learn from another country that its level of research and technology is very high,
such as Germany.
In the same way, within the universities we will have meetings where Peru will be discussed
as a country full of cultures, traditions, gastronomy, customs, tourist places that are very
interesting and important to know and all the importance that Peru has in Latin America. He
will talk about the importance of the UNMSM in the field of education and research as well
as what it means in the history of Peru since it has former students as important characters
in the history of our country as have been 21 presidents of our country as well as well as our
Nobel Prize in Literature Mario Vargas Llosa. In the same way, we will talk about the
opportunities that Germans have in Peru and Latin America. Some dynamics have been
prepared that allow the knowledge and interaction between the group and the Germans, here
games, images and references that make mention of our culture, gastronomy, history and so
they can learn in a more playful way everything related to our country.
Finally, meetings will be held at universities and visits to different museums together with
German student groups that will allow us to learn a little more about their culture, their history,
as well as practice the English language that will serve us all for possible future international
exchanges .
It will also allow us to see and learn different perspectives of projects and research, learn
about advances and technological innovations that are being developed in our countries and
with this also generate ties of future international cooperation through our institutions. For all
these activities, the Covid sanitary measures are being counted.

Preparation: please explain the status of your substantive preparation for the trip and/or any
associated preparatory measures (academic, preparation for insights into the country, language

For our preparation, we began to attend the different talks offered by the DAAD. On the other hand,
we contacted winners of past editions of the DAAD of various nationalities to gather valuable
information, recommendations and experience in German universities.
We have carried out an evaluation of the different universities in Germany considering criteria such
as educational quality, history of agreements with the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos,
adequate facilities for learning, relationship of the area of interest with the proposed project,
geographical proximity between the universities and the accessibility of visits by the host university
for next year. All this under biosecurity measures due to the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To guarantee compliance with the itinerary, we take into account the invitation letters from the
universities already contacted. In these we will make visits to faculties, laboratories, research centers,

as well as the exchange of cultural experiences. The itinerary was put together in such a way that the
sequence of universities visited can be carried out with the minimum of displacement and seeking
proximity between them.
Our preparation in research work is constant, since we seek to be updated and obtain first-hand
information, in this case, we are aware of technology and advances in renewable energy developed
in Germany.
For greater security of compliance with the itinerary, we take into account the invitation letters from
the universities already contacted. In these we will make visits to the faculties, laboratories, research
centers, as well as various cultural experiences will be shared. The itinerary was put together in such
a way that the sequence of universities visited can be carried out with the minimum of displacement
and seeking proximity between them.
As for the language, this does not turn out to be a problematic issue for the team, since each member
has at least an intermediate level of English. Group meetings have been held to be able to practice
the language, with the aim of successfully achieving a perfect understanding and speaking of the
English language. During this preparation, the group has practiced English in online workshops in
order to improve specific skills such as reading, listening, writing and speaking. Native speakers have
been invited to constantly evaluate our pronunciation.
All members of the research group pass a comprehensive medical evaluation to see both general
health status and symptoms related to COVID-19. In the same way, they are being periodically trained
on prevention, hygiene measures and care against COVID-19.
All members have prepared all the documentation to achieve a successful trip (passport, credit card,
ID), anticipating every problem during the trip.
Sustainability: is further cooperation with German higher education institutions planned as a
result of this trip, e.g. a return visit?
We hope to enhance cooperation between the Peruvian and German institutions. All this in order to
continue proposing solutions that affect the environment in the world. We want to promote greater
alliances between universities in Europe, exchange experiences among our colleagues,
strengthening our network of contacts. We would like to start an international academic cooperation
with higher institutions with academic activities such as virtual courses, talks with international study
groups with the same interest in projects, in addition, this trip is a great opportunity to initiate
agreements with the University of Karlsruhe, University of Leipzig, Karlsruhe Institute Technology,
among others that are planned to visit, exchanging knowledge, benefits and advantages that the
Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and the Peruvian culture offer to the German
Universities.
In addition, the group is interested in pursuing a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or
related in German universities, generating greater expectations about studies and scholarships from
DAAD programs to colleagues from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and other
universities in Peru and Latin America.
As a product of this trip, it is planned not only to coordinate scientific presentations and conferences
on environmental issues but also to generate publications in academic journals about the study
project and also the experience during the stay in Germany.
On the other hand, we want to continue contributing to the industry such as the fishing industrial
sector, the Peruvian Navy, smart and sustainable city projects, to continue presenting this research
project to technological innovation programs in competitions worldwide.
Finally, we want to encourage our Peruvian and German colleagues to continue participating in this
program in the following editions, strengthening our network of contacts and providing solutions for
global sustainable development.
