RATIONALE
The 21st century requires citizens to think critically and work collaboratively to solve various
problems faced in our country and world. To achieve this goal, we must change the way we
teach. Like the Social Studies National Standard Curriculum, the foundation upon which this
book rest is constructivism which promotes the student-centred learning and teaching. This
book will feature hands on activities that will enable students to make informed and reasoned
decisions that will benefit the changing world. Consequently, this book that will help to
harness the 21st century skills required to solve real issues in Jamaica. It will feature puzzles,
case studies and provide opportunities for students to be engaged in practices and
methodology entrenched in the STEM approach.
