Question:
A cross section of excavated soil slope is shown in Figure 01. Calculate the factor of safety of the
slope for the indicated slip surface shown in Figure 02. Soil properties are given in Table 01.
Note:
1. Use ordinary method of slices.
2. Use 6 to 8 slices for the stability analysis.
3. Use of Figure 01 is optional. You can obtain dimensions using the scale presented in
Figure 02. (Any reasonable values will be accepted)
4. Perform stability analysis of the slope using undrained shear strength for all of the
materials.
