GROUNDING and FOCUS:

1.As a coach become aware of competencies of a coach.
2.Wear an imaginary veil (shield, Jacket etc) to protect yourself.
2. Coach asks the client: "On a scale of 0 to 10, how present and focused
are you for our session today?"
(If the client appears to be less focused, do a focusing exercise to help the
Client focus.)
3)Coach asks the client :
"Let us look at what you would like to achieve in this session today. In
other words, what is the subject matter on which you would like to
work on today?
(Remember, client may come up with a goal or an issue. S/he may choose a
topic from the previous coaching session or a pre-decided matter from AOIs
identified at the beginning of the engagement.)
4)Coach to take proper notes of what client shares. If required, coach may ask
more how and what questions to have better understanding of what client is
sharing. Something like- What else can you share?
Coach may also have to backtrack ie reflect back what a client says using the
same keywords and gestures.
Sometimes, client may give you lots of information.
In such a case or otherwise, coach to ask the client: How can you put what
you just stated in one or two lines?
Coach writes the Outcome clearly and makes the client write the same.
(Remember the desired outcome will be either an issue or challenge client
wants to resolve or a goal that client wants to achieve.)
