Benchmarking
1. Collapse of the Berlin Wall

- Millions of people were liberated as a result of this event, which signaled the end of
communism. It also shifted a large portion of the world away from centrally planned
economies and toward democratic free-market governments.

2. Netscape

- Users can now save, retrieve, send, and share intellectual content in an instant and
electronically. The internet provided a platform for connectivity, and the web enabled
information sharing.

3. Workflow software

- People could now collaborate while working remotely. Users could now design, display,
manage, and collaborate on projects, as well as share data that was previously handled
manually and locally.

4. Outsourcing

- Specific functions or tasks that were previously performed in-house, such as tax
preparation, research, or call-center operations, are now performed at a lower cost by
another company.

5. Offshoring

-Offshoring, as opposed to outsourcing, involves the relocation of an entire operation,

factory, or function to a completely different location. Except for lower taxes and subsidized
energy, everything is equal. The sum of the savings results in a lower-cost product.

6. Open Source

- Collaborating and sharing work.

7. Supply-chaining

- Collaboration among suppliers, retailers, and customers to create value during a product's
production and distribution.

8. Insourcing

- Small and medium-sized businesses, such as UPS, can provide services to large supply chains
without incurring prohibitive costs.

9. In-forming
-Gives everyone access to knowledge, information, and research. Anyone with an internet
connection can gain access to the world's libraries.

10.“The Steroids”

-An emerging digital flattener is VoIP (voice over internet protocol) which allows people to
make phone calls using a broadband internet connection.
