“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the
faith of Jesus.” (Rev. 14:12)
“...it is impossible to have faith in a person without having knowledge of the person; far from being
contrasted with knowledge, faith is founded upon knowledge. That assertion runs counter to the
whole trend of contemporary religious teaching; but a little reflection, I think, will show that it is
indubitably correct, and that it must be applied specifically to the objects of Christian faith.” J. G.
Machen, What is Faith?
The faith of Jesus and the knowledge of God and Jesus Christ go together.
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom
thou hast sent.” (John 17:3)
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by
me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye
know him, and have seen him. ...he that hath seen me hath seen the Father...” (John 14:6-7, 9).
Note: Without the Word of God we cannot have the faith of Jesus
“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification...” (1 Thess. 4:3)
“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and
body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thess 5:23).
Can we be prepared for the second coming of Christ without studying the Word of God?
“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” (Heb. 12:14).
