Introduction template

 Delete background information that is not essential to the objective of the study and
flag if sufficient background has not been provided on the issue/problem examined in
the paper. Even when deleting text, add a comment saying why it was deleted.
 Flag citations if the studies were published more that 10-15 years ago and recommend
more recent studies. Also comment if the studies’ findings are not directly linked to
current study.
 Flag instances where the cited studies don’t clearly present what is known and/or if
the authors have not clearly stated the gaps in knowledge.
 Clearly define the motivations behind the study, problem being studied, and why the
problem is important
 Ensure that the aim/purpose/objective of the study are presented clearly and are to the
point
 Delete results if they have been discussed here (unless it’s a journal requirement).

When sampling, always read the last paragraph of the Introduction very carefully to
understand the rationale of the study (or whether the client has included the rationale in a
clear manner).
