Delete background information that is not essential to the objective of the study and
flag if sufficient background has not been provided on the issue/problem examined in
the paper. Even when deleting text, add a comment saying why it was deleted.
Flag citations if the studies were published more that 10-15 years ago and recommend
more recent studies. Also comment if the studies’ findings are not directly linked to
current study.
Flag instances where the cited studies don’t clearly present what is known and/or if
the authors have not clearly stated the gaps in knowledge.
Clearly define the motivations behind the study, problem being studied, and why the
problem is important
Ensure that the aim/purpose/objective of the study are presented clearly and are to the
point
Delete results if they have been discussed here (unless it’s a journal requirement).
When sampling, always read the last paragraph of the Introduction very carefully to
understand the rationale of the study (or whether the client has included the rationale in a
clear manner).
