FAQ’s - Supplemental Evaluations

Q.1) What is a supplemental exam?


A supplemental exam applies when a student fails a course by obtaining less than 60% as the
final grade.

Q.2) How many supplemental exams am I allowed to give?


Students are entitled to request up to 2 (two) supplemental evaluations for different courses
during their program.

Q.3) How do I apply for a supplemental exam?


You need to raise a request/ticket on the Help Center portal
(montrealcollege.ca/helpcenter) under the Supplemental Evaluation section.

Q.4) What is the eligibility to apply and appear for a supplemental exam?
According to IPESA, the conditions the be eligible for a supplemental evaluation are:
1. The request must be submitted within 45 days after the end date of the course.
2. The academic profile should not have any blocks from any departments.
3. The documents should be in good standing i.e. valid Study Permit & or CAQ.
4. The tuition fees status should be in good standing.
5. The student must have completed the course and failed it by having less than 60% as
the final grade.

Note: In case you need to submit valid documents

You must send a PDF of the documents to registrar@montrealcollege.ca


Mention your student ID number and name in the “subject” while forwarding the
documents.

Q.5) Is there any fee related to the supplemental exam?


Yes, there is a $75 fee for each online exam currently.

Q.6) How do I pay for the Supplemental exam?


You will be requested via ticket to make the payment within 5 days period. Failing to do so,
your ticket will be closed, and you will have to submit a new request.
You can refer to the document available on Omnivox which is “Instructions for Online Payment
and FAQs “or pay the exam fees as you pay for the tuition fees.
Q.7) How do I confirm my payment status?
There is no need to confirm the payment.

Q.8) What are the next steps after payment confirmation from the Finance department?
 You will receive your schedule via ticket.
 The schedules are given on a first-come-first serve basis.
 The supplemental exams are only conducted on Thursdays or Fridays.
 After you receive your exam schedule, make sure to read the instructions on the ticket.
 The invitation for the online exam will be sent a few days in advance.
** Currently all supplemental exams are online.

Q.9) How do I prepare for the exam?


The syllabus for this exam will cover the entire course outline of that course for which you have
applied for.
You can also get assistance from a Teaching Assistant (TA) on MS Teams.
The course syllabus, materials & schedules for TAs are available on Omnivox.

Q.10) What is the structure/format of the supplemental exam?


The exam will be for 100 marks which will replace your current grade.
Most of the supplementary exams will have multiple choice questions, true or false,
short answer questions and last section will have either a theoretical case study or a practical.

Q. 12) What happens if I fail my supplemental exam?


You can redo your exam by raising a new ticket, provided you have not utilized the 2 attempts
you are allowed for per program. If So, you will have to attend the course again.
