Conversation 1: Birthday Conversation

Situation: Anita and Bishal attend Sheetal’s birthday party.

Anita: Happy birthday Sheetal.

Bishal: Thank you for inviting us to your party.
Sheetal: Come in. Lovely to see you both. There are lots of people here that you
know. Come and help yourselves to the food.
Bishal: Doesn't Sheetal look happy? She is so excited!
Anita: My goodness! There is so much to eat, I'm glad I didn't have much lunch.
Bishal: It all looks amazing. A good job the plates are large. I'm going to have a little
of everything.
Anita: I love spaghetti and the king size pizza looks irresistible.
Bishal: I fancy the mini burgers and salad. These fresh bread rolls are warm.
Anita: Let's go and find somewhere to sit.
Bishal: That was delicious. I've still room for trying the selection of sweets.
Anita: I don't want yogurt or fruit but the different cheeses look tempting. I'll get a
selection.
Bishal: Look, Sheetal is bringing in her birthday cake.
Anita: I think it's a chocolate cake. I won't refuse a piece of that.
Bishal: Happy birthday Sheetal. Thank you for such a wonderful meal.
Anita: Let's go into the other room and talk to some of our friends.
Bishal: The music is very loud. I think you'll have to shout.
Anita: I've a loud voice so no problem.

entire country, but now that the day is here, I feel nervous more
than excited.
Kabita: Well, that is understandable. You are stepping out of your
comfort zone. It would make anyone nervous. But you are
pursuing your dream and that is incredible.
Hisi: Really! You think so.
Kabita: Yes, definitely. I am so excited for you.
Hisi: Oh, thank you so much!
Kabita: I can’t wait to see all about your new adventures and
experiences in the newspaper very soon.
Hisi: Are you teasing me? I will not be on the newspaper until and
unless I win the competition.
Kabita: I know you can succeed in anything that you put your mind to. I
want to wish you all the best for the next chapter of your life.
