Type of test = intermittent voltage / current cycling test.

Description of the test: The test consist of a test circuit simulating front end of Power
supply with charging the 2600µF capacitor bank with 440VRMS and then going to a load
which was a wire wound resistor of 1.0 K-Watt, and dissipating for 15 minutes at
18.0Amp and switching off the test for 5.0minutes with forced cooling and repeating the
cycle.

MTBF = Ta / r

Where:

Ta = Σ Ti + (N-r) td

Ti = Infant mortality or failure before test was over = 62000 cycle

r = # of failures = 1, Failure occurred after 93,000 cycles.

N = # of samples tested. = 100

Td = duration of test = 100,000 cycles

93,000 / 1 + (100–1) (100,000) / 1 = 9,993,000 cycles = MTBF.
