Recall past experiences in outreach activities and reflect on the following questions.

What is your contribution to the activity?

I have never really been involved in outreach activities, even recently. I have never tried
volunteering, joining programs, or making the effort to even slightly participate in events of the
sort. Honestly, I thought there wasn't much of a need for volunteers. I have looked into it. Our
local programs even go through long periods of sending all their proceeds to other cities,
because there's just a lot of support and donations and volunteers around here. I thought my
contribution wasn’t necessary when there are others devoting their time into making it. I value
my free time too. Though this was a cynical outlook, I now have learned that this is a highly
immature way of thinking. My past experiences only include me spectating, but I have seen the
effects it has on people regardless and it made me change my opinion.

How do you think the people you helped benefited from your service?

As part of the privileged percentage of the population, we have access to basic necessities
quite easily. We’ve never had to struggle for food, shelter, or education. Naturally we have
excess resources, and these resources should be given to those who have to work night and
day just to get something to eat. For example, even a single day of a feeding program is enough
for their happiness, this single day can serve as a beacon of hope for them. It’s not everyday
that they get to feast on a meal without worrying about it ending. This is just one example of
how the less fortunate can benefit from outreach programs. Despite the cruelty of this world,
outreaches like these give them another reason to keep on living everyday.

What do you think would be the effect of such activities on its recipients?

It's exposed me to work environments and subject matter I have no contact with whatsoever in
my daily life - working with kids, challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness, what
using Internet tech is like for people with disabilities, the impact of the arts on children, and on
and on. I also have learned a lot about them even just as a spectator. Activities like these make
the world a slightly better place to live in for them.
