Transformer with rated 50kVA, 400V, 50Hz has the information:

Primary turns = 2000 turns

Secondary turns = 200 turns
Secondary current = 200A
Iron losses = 40W
Copper losses = 60W

Calculate:

i. V2 = V1 x (N2)
N1
= 400 x 200 -
2000
= 40V

ii. I1 = I2 x (N2)
N1
= 200 x 200-
2000
= 20A

iii. P1 = V1 x I1
= 400 x 20
= 8000W

iv. P2 = V2 x I2
= 40 x 200
= 8000W

v. % Eff = P1
P2 + Ilosses + Closses
= 8000
8000 + 40 + 60
= 99%
2. If a 400V, three phase transformer has 400 turns per phase on the primary
windings and 80 turns on the secondary, find the output line voltage for each
of the four main types of connection.

i. Star-star
VL = 400v
VP = VL / √3
= 400/√3
= 230.9V (= V1)
V1/V2 = N1/N2
V2 = V1N2 / N1
= (230 x 80)/ 400
= 46V (=VP)
(STAR2) VL = √3 VP
= √3 x 46
= 79.7V

ii. Delta-delta
VL = VP = 400v (= V1)
V1/V2 = N1/N2
V2 = V1N2 / N1
= (400 x 80)/ 400
= 80V (=VP)
(DELTA2) VL = VP
=80V

iii. Delta-star
VL = VP = 400v (= V1)
V1/V2 = N1/N2
V2 = V1N2 / N1
= (400 x 80)/ 400
= 80V (=VP)
(STAR2) VL = √3 VP
= √3 x 80
= 138.6V
