 Political Cartoons Precis: My Precis

Precis: In her political cartoon titled “Another one of our ‘Blank slates’”, by Liza Donnelly,
Donnelly is demeaning the process by which young children are instilled with societal
expectations. Donnelly emphasizes this by emphasizing on the stereotypical objects associated
with women like lipstick, dresses, jewelry, and heels while standing over her baby, talking about
stereotypical girly topics like rouge, nail polish, and husbands, which is a form of labelling. In
doing this, the author is pointing out how children are indoctrinated thoroughly when they are
young, even at infancy, to grow up to be socially “acceptable”. The author’s tone of exasperation
and skepticism in the cartoon makes the audience feel skeptical and angry that such a young girl
is being indoctrinated at such a young age.
