Qualified Practice 1: Friction Factor of The Colebrook-White Equation, With Numerical Methods
Qualified Practice 1: Friction Factor of The Colebrook-White Equation, With Numerical Methods
Where:
hf: shear or friction losses,
f: shear or friction loss factor,
g: acceleration of gravity,
D: tube diameter,
L: tube length and
V: average velocity in the tube.
Many are the researchers who began to study the phenomenon in order to find an expression that would
allow us to calculate the famous f, among them are Colebrook-White:
• In the laminar region Poiseuille proposed in 1846 the following equation:
Where:
Re: Reynolds number,
ε: Absolute roughness.
It is impossible to clear the value of f from the Colebrook-White expression, therefore to know this value
we must resort to numerical methods and find this value in an approximate way.
The work consists of calculating the values of f for both laminar flow as well as turbulent flow, for 102 <RE
<108, and relative roughness between 1 * 10-5 <ε / D <5 * 10-2. The MATLAB program must draw the
MOODY diagram, using the secant method. Calculations must have an accuracy of 0.0001%.
The delivery time is MIERCOLES 29, until hrs. 18:30 MOODLE time.
