What do Canadians think about immigration? – Listening development (p. 38)
TRANSCRIPT of Paul Guttenberger [relaxed]
“I was speaking with a few friends yesterday and we felt that
the majority of Canadians value immigration and the diversity it gives Canada. Personally, I’m easy-going about these things. I know there are occasional stories in the media about racism, but there does not appear to be much tension between immigrants and non-immigrants where I live in East Toronto.”
TRANSCRIPT of Susan Anderson-Cruz [complimentary]
“I support immigration just the way it is, and I think most
provinces do a good job helping newcomers to Canada. We have the second largest land mass in the world and need immigrant skills and investments and energy to help the country grow.”
TRANSCRIPT of Jason Owen [negative]
“A week or so ago, I read that a Somali man had just
sponsored his 100th family member to come to Canada. 100???? What is going on? Has Canada’s immigration system gone even more crazy? Hasn’t anyone at the Citizenship and Immigration Office noticed that this guy has been permitted to bring 100 family members into Canada? Honestly, it’s too much and has to stop.”
