October 1, Friday 4:00-7:00—-----3hr First day I went to the
restaurant and had an
introduction with my mentor and had got to know him a little better and got to share some things of my own and explained to him what my idea is and what I need to accomplish by my time, then we went inside the kitchen where it was nerve racking because there were so many people working inside and then there was me who barely knows what to do then got to know where i would be expected to work. Did nothing but still got tired..lol
October 2nd, Saturday 2:02-5:00–3hr Day 2.
Went back and got to know the people working there and got to know whose station is where. It's basically like one or two people have their own stations where they work like the order is sent to the kitchen then the chef makes it and leaves it on the side and then the person who packs the order, takes it and packs it and hands it out to the person outside. Then after that I had a conversation with them to get to know them there and started talking about the plan of the capstone with my mentor and what we should work on first and how many things i should add to the website. After that i went home and forgot everyone’s name :)
October 3rd, Sunday 1:30-3:37–2hr Went inside the kitchen and
had gotten to know where they keep the spices and in which order they keep it, like the spice level order and then got to know the names of the people working inside again and started making my first beverage which was the chai tea which took me around 3-4 rounds to get it perfect. How i made it was by asking my mentor the recipe and followed it but added less ingredients to it because i would have to make it multiple times
October 8th, Friday 5:00-7:12–2hr Did some safety drills and
some emergency procedures like what to do during a fire or where are the safety kits and where the band aids are, what to do if someone gets injured like if someone got cut by a knife and what should I do. Then I saw 2-3 videos of the Food safe procedure, in the video they showed a person cooking something but i had been told to watch for something unsanitary and something that could harm the person or the people around them and yeah.
October 9th Saturday 2:30-4:30–2hr Had a conversation with my
mentor and started to plan out the cookbook and layout the rough idea of how many pages there should be in the book and how i would fit the images and what section would be there to write October 10 Sunday 3-5–2hr Went to the kitchen and met my mentor and he showed me how to make pasta but in his way, and so while he was making it, i took some notes down of what things he is adding and in what order he’s adding them and noted the timings of how long the pasta should be boiled for and how i can clean it. Then it was my turn to take over and so I started making the pasta like he did and would look over my notes but would try not to use them that much
October 15 Friday 4-6–2hr Went to the restaurant and
started sharing about the things that I had planned to make, which I took some dishes from the menu that I thought would be able to be made at home and also the ones that I thought wouldn’t be challenging but had planned to add one challenging dish in it. So we had a long conversation of what things I should add and what things i shouldn’t
October 16 Saturday 3-5–2hr Rather than going to the
restaurant I took the day off and had started writing down the recipe from my phone of the pasta and the tea onto the paper that would turn out to be would be my page for the cookbook and had did some research about the food itself like where it was first made and who first made it and whether if it was a healthy choice
October 17 Sunday 6-8—2hr Today I learned something
new!! Today I learned how to make some vegetarian noodles! The first time Lucky had asked me if I had made noodles ever in my life and I had said only once, and so we added noodles to the list and so we went inside the kitchen then he had told me what I would have to add in them and how long it would take for me to make them. So first he went while i was looking at him make it, but i had forgotten to write down the ingredients and the steps so when he had finished it i asked him for the recipes and ths steps so while he was telling me them I was writing it down in my notes on my phone and after telling me it we had eaten the noodles so i can taste it and now how they should taste like and then it was my turn and surprisingly I did pretty good besides the fact I added wayyy to much soy sauce.
October 22 friday 4:30-6:37— 2hr So today i took my rough
draft to the restaurant and had started drawing out the rough draft of the cookbook but then I had wanted to switch to making a website instead so I talked to lucky and asked him whether if i should switch or not and he said it would be a good idea to make it into a website and so I switched to making my website which took me like 30 minutes and the remaining time I learned how to make some Honey chili potatoes! So first the same routine happened, first he went and showed me how to make the dishes and also told me the recipes and the steps while making it, then we tired some and so i knew that this is how mine should taste like and so i had went and tried to make it and then after we were done I added all the feedback that lucky had given me to notes.
October 23 saturday 2-4:30– 2.5hr Today we made some fried
rice! So today I learned how to cook the rice properly and after cooking a batch of rice i called down lucky to help me out and so he went first and he told me the recipes and the ingredients of the fried rice and so i took my notes down and so after writing them down we ate some of the rice so i could know how it would taste like and so it was my turn, but while i was cutting the veggies i didn’t realize that i had cut my finger so i took some time off and put my finger under cold water and band aid myself and was good to go and started making the rice now
October 24 sunday 6-9– 3hr Today we came in a little late
but I think it’s because Lucky, i'm not really sure what happened but he said i’ll be a bit late so i just went along with it and so i got some time to rest a little. Today we went and he taught me how to make some Tandoori boneless chicken which was honestly one of the most time consuming and the hardest dish i made so far. Again we did the same thing he made it and then i took the notes and and it was my turn but i wasnt really satisfied with the dish because i made some errors and so i aksed him if we could re make it on friday and he said ok, then when we ate my chicken then lucky told me some point that is should work on for the future.
October 29 Friday 4-6–2hr Today we really didn’t do
anything time consuming because it was almost halloween and the people at the restaurant needed some time to prepare for the “big day” as they call it, they told some facts how like on halloween, christmas and new years they always beat their previous record of the total sale. So it was a big deal. So we went there and we made some Filter coffee which to be honest was kinda a surprise for me because i had never ever heard of what a filter coffee is and what it tasted like, and so it was the same thing again, lucky went first and then i took some notes and then i went after. Then after making the coffee i wrote the ingredients and the recipes and then after doing that i help them out because it was busy and so i worked at the till for some time and it was pretty fun to be honest and it wasn't as hard as i thought it would be
October 30 sunday 1.5 hour Today i took the day off so i
can work on my website and add the dishes i made onto the website and basically that's all i did because i don't feel like working that much because it was almost halloween and so yeah
November 5 friday 5:10-7–2 hr Today we made some cheese
fingers. So we went inside the kitchen and got ready to make the cheese fingers, the first time Lucky showed me how to cut the cheese like how thick and how long it should be, and also he showed me how to make the batter and he made it. He made like 4 sticks just to show me and so i tried a bite and it was actually pretty good! Then he told me the ingredients and the recipes and then it was my turn to go. For my turn i did the exact same thing but i made the batter too thin and so which is why it wouldn't stick onto the cheese and so i had to redo the batter again and it worked this time.
November 6 saturday 7-9–2 hr Today we made some
delicious mango shake and so first he went then i did but something really exciting happened today which was that today i had the opportunity to make the meals for the people who can’t afford it! Basically in the meal they would give out Butter chicken, rice and some naan bread. Today i had the opportunity to make some butter chicken and naan. My main focus was on naan because the butter chicken was going to be made in a huge chunk and so which is hwy i made the naans
November 7 sunday 3-5 hr–2 Today was the last day of me
coming to the restaurant, and so i had the chance to thank everyone for being supportive to me and also had the chance to make any dish from my capstone or from the menu and so i did that and i also talked to lucky if he was looking to hire a new person because i really enjoyed spending my weekends at this place and being around such nice people! Also because I am free on the weekends and have nothing to do.
Thursday December 16 12-3—3hr Ok so today i wasn’t really
feeling sleepy so i was watching some netflix then i realized that i had to work on my capstone, so i went to my cooking website and i looked back at my notes and added the other food dishes i made and i edited the website
December 28 2 hr So again i wasn’t really
sleepy so i thought might as well work on the website and this time I had typed out my other two dishes and had played a little with the backgrounds and the colours to see which one looks better, and after doing that i had sent it to Lucky to take a look at it and am still waiting for him to reply…. Ok so now he finaly replied and he said that the website needed some minor changes and so i made them and i was done my capstone!!!
