As Hellen Keller once quoted “Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of

responsibility for each other’s welfare, social justice can never be achieved.” Diversity, inclusion, and
social justice are key to the success of any organization. The world is now largely interconnected
culturally as well as demographically. Thus, the need to improve diversity and inclusion to prevent
individuals being left out. It is better to build bridges for connection than having obstacles to inclusion,
for unity brings development.

To meet with the increasing diverse number of students, I must certainly embrace the differences. An
organization is only as valuable as the talent it retains and attracts. When one actively creates, and
cultivate a culture of inclusion, one is decreasing turnover, increasing teamwork while increasing
connected culture and improving student experience for all. I, once accepted into the Maryville
Community, will help any way I can to promote and foster strong intercultural groups. To enhance
inclusion and diversity, students must appreciate the various cultures when there are strong
intercultural groups to help showcase the various cultures by celebrating and observing various
ceremonies. When the groups are strengthened, students will learn to appreciate the diversity and
inclusion and diversity initiative championed by Kenyon and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

I do agree that being an alien, based on your race, social class, or sexual orientation a new
environment can be challenging. I remember clearly how queasy I had felt when I had to school in the
far Northern part of my country. Being the only Akan in a pool of Dagaate students was not a child’s
play. I barely understood the local dialect, though we were taught in English. It took me weeks to adjust
to their lifestyle and frankly speaking, they were my worst. Bit by bit I gained their trust with most being
staunchly conservative against foreigners. My experience taught me to help incoming foreign students
to adjust to the lifestyle there. Though resources were not the best to go through such a project, we had
support which campaigned for inclusions and diversity. I would not say it was a wish come through but
we made great progress. I believe the Kenyon community will help me build on my existing plan to
improve diversity worldwide by strengthening our world bodies to face trouble ahead particularly
climate change.
