Mark 1: 35-39

Jesus prays alone

Walk slowly to the shelf and pick up “Jesus prays alone” tray. Carry it carefully with
both hands to the circle. Put the tray down beside you. Sit quietly while you feel the
story forming in you. Then roll out the green underlay as you say,

After Jesus had called his disciples to come and follow him they travelled together
throughout the region of Galilee.

Add the beige road and spread it out with your hands. Add two brown mountain
shapes to one side away from the road.

Jesus taught with authority and healed many people. They were all amazed and
gathered around him and at his door

Take out the figure of Jesus and present him to all students to see. Move him along
the road slowly.

In the morning, while it was still very dark…

Using your hands place them above Jesus as if the sky was covering him.

He got up…

Move Jesus slowly off the road and towards the mountain shapes

And went out to a deserted place…

Have Jesus positioned behind the mountain shapes facing away from the road

And there he prayed

Move hands from the top of Jesus upwards in a blessing motion. Take time to
ponder this moment then say…

Simon and his companions searched for him.

Move Simon and two other disciples along the beige road in a searching motion
looking for Jesus. Eventually move them to stand in front of Jesus.

When they found him they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you”.

Turn Jesus to face them.

Jesus said ”Let us go to the neighbouring towns so that I may teach there too, for
that is what I came out to do”.
Move Jesus and the disciples back to the road and move them along the road to
continue their journey.

Sit back and pause.

Responding to God’s Word: Wondering together

I wonder why the people wanted to be with Jesus.

I wonder why Jesus wanted to be by himself.

I wonder if you have ever wanted to be in a quiet place.

I wonder where that would be for you.

I wonder where you pray.

I wonder what Jesus said when he prayed.
