For villages with water quality issues and/or non availability of sufficient ground water, multi village surface source water supply schemes may be planned. Therefore zoning of the area should be proposed. The site for over head tank should be so selected that the farthest end does not exceed 4 km in general. As the viability of the project is essential, it should include all habitations of a particular village/panchayat. The smaller habitations situated away from water works (requiring long pipeline in barren area/field) should be left for coverage by independent pipe water supply through Solar Pump etc. 2- = Surve: & Levelli The detailed survey and levelling of the project area, should be carried out by total station which includes GPS coordinates of proposed Intake well/Treatment plant/CWR/Water works/TW/ OHT/junction point of lanes, type of road formation (Bitumen, CC, BOE, Paver Block, Kaccha), drains/canals, electric line, highway indicating number of lanes, Rail line, water bodies, village/habitation boundaries, public institutions (school, anganwadi, panchayat bhavan etc.). 3- Population Projection The base year, midyear & design years shall be taken as 2023, 2038 & 2053 respectively. Projection of population for different years should be based upon different mathematical/graphical models and most suitable population should be adopted for design of various components. Reasons of adopting a particular model for population projection should be discussed in the project report. Total number of revenue villages and their habitations should be listed with their code numbers in the schemes and the total population specifying the population of SC/ST/OBC & Minority Population separately. 4- Surface source- The economics of the system from raw water intake to storage reservoir at t] a: for 16 hours working shall be i : ——F : worked out keeping in view that either the filters be designed for 24 hours operation with raw water plus clear water storage or the filters are also designed for 16 hours operation with no raw water or clear water storage. The economical system of the two shall have to be adopted. Any how the minimum capacity of clear water storage of 2 hours at the treatment works and % hours storage at each intermediate pumping stations is absolutely essential. Design Components a) Tube well and pumping plants. ¢ Requirement of Tube Wells and Pumping Plants shall be for middle stage (15 years) demand. Data of discharge and depth for the existing neighbourhood Tube wells should be collected and the proposed Tube well should be based on such data, 100% of sand free discharge at 4.5 meter draw down should be adopted. ¢ The scheme should be preferably based on captive solar power plant and during lean period (45 days) when sufficient radiation is not available provision for generator should be made. * Spare pumping plant shall be provided. b) Intake well-_ The size of intake well shall be so chosen as to fullfill the minmum distance requirement between pumps as per electricity rules and it shall be able to accommdodate switch board, starters, space for overhauling etc. In no case it shall be less than 4.0 meter dia. The intake well shall be located at a safe place above H.F.L. where water is either available throughout the year or through an approch channel. c) Stage of pumping for multistage pumping- In one stage head for pumps shall not exceed 300 meter and number of stages shall be so evenly distributed so that the pumps of almost same duty are proposed at each stage as for as possible for the ease of maintenance. d) The Raw Water Pumping Plants- The raw water pumping plant shall be proposed for low head and as for as possible the head shall not exceed 30 meters. Two numbers pumps of full capacity should be installed, therefore this Giveh LHO% stand bye or otherwise pot any Gr 3 numbers of 4 capacity pumps shall be provided giving 50% stand bye. The efficiency and performance should be as per LS.I specifications. The Specified rating should be chosen at which the pump have to work for most of the time. e) Clear Water Pumping Plants- % capacity pumps 3 number or 1/3 capaicty 4 number shall be provided. The Specified rating should be chosen at which the pump have to work for most of the time. f) Pumping Hours- 6.5 hours for solar based schemes 8.0 hours for TW schemes. 16.0 hours for surface source schemes g) Rising Mains- For working out the economical size of rising main 10% rate of interest should be taken into account. The detailed surge analysis will be required , suitable surge protection devices should be provided and the pipe materials selected shall be able to withstand higher pressures. Schemes where number of TW proposed upto 3, separate rising main be provided for individual TW to the OHT. In cases where number of TW is more than 3 independent rising main from Tubewells be laid up to a CWR and water to be pumped to OHT from this CWR. The CWR should be provided for % hour of storage h) Treatment works for river water- The design of treatment plant shall be as per criteria given in the mannual of water supply of Govt. of India. MVS with surface water source could be planned with water treatment having slow sand filters for smaller populations of about 5000 where adequate land is available and pressure filters can be used for population's up to 20,000, beyond which Rapid sand filters will be used.
