PART III
Directions: Construct a DETAILED LESSON PLAN for Grade 5 on the topic attached.
Reference Material:
Science Beyond Borders 5
Evelyn T. Sarte, et.al
I. Objectives
1) Enumerate and explain the differences and similarities between the three different chemical
properties of matter.
2) Categorize different materials to the right kind of chemical properties they possess which can
be combustibility, flammability or biodegradability.
3) Identify materials which shows combustibility, flammability and biodegradability.
4) Create a poster with a slogan showing the harmful and useful effects of combustibility,
flammability and biodegradability chemical properties of materials in our ecosystem.
A. Content Standard:
The learner demonstrate understanding of…
1) properties of materials to determine whether they are useful or harmful
2) materials undergo changes due to oxygen and heat
B. Performance Standard:
The learner…
1) uses local recyclable, solid and/or liquid materials in making useful products
C. Learning Competency
The learner…
1) uses the properties of materials whether they are useful or harmful;
2) investigates changes that happen in materials, under the following conditions:
2.1) presence or lack of oxygen; and
2.2) application of heat;
3) recognizes the importance of recycle, reduce, reuse, recover and repair in waste management
II. Content:
Chemical Properties of Matter (Combustibility, Flammability and Biodegradability)

1) Prayer
3) Classroom Management
Well that is good to hear, but before you all sit down
please kindly arrange your chairs first.
Okay Teacher!
4) Checking of Attendance
B. Review
That is a very good question. Yes Ma’am! What is the difference between the two so
that we can know which materials are combustible or
flammable or both because they seem to be very
The difference between combustibility and similar.
flammability are flammable and combustible materials
differ based on the temperatures they must be
exposed to in order to catch fire. Specifically,
flammables will ignite at lower temperatures than
combustibles when exposed to an ignition source and
this specific temperature, also known as a flash point,
is what separates flammables and combustibles.
Very Good!
Yes we believe that it is important in our environment
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new because these natural process it helps to remove
skills #2 organic waste that can be harmful to our ecosystem.
( The teacher will write the activity and instruction on
the blackboard about the three chemical property of
matter and give the pupils ample amount of time to
answer)
Activity
Direction: Get a one whole sheet of paper and
enumerate the three chemical property of matter that
we have discussed and explain the differences and
similarities between these three.

G. Generalization
H. Finding practical /applications of concepts and skills materials that we use in order to be safe from its
in daily living harmful effects and benefit from its useful effects.
Now, I will divide you into six groups and I will give
each group an illustration board.
Activity
Direction: Create a poster with a slogan showing the
harmful and useful effects of combustibility,
flammability and biodegradability chemical
properties of materials in our ecosystem using the
illustration board I have given and any art
materials you have
Understood?
Yes Teacher!
( The teacher will collect the work after all the groups
are done she can also give them extra time to submit if
needed)
I. Evaluation
Directions: Write CB on the blank before each
number if the following statement or materials
refers to Combustibility, FB if it refers to
Flammability and BD if it refers to
Biodegradability.
1. The ability of a material to burn or the measure
of how easily a substance will set on fire.
2. The ability of a material to decompose.
3. The ability of a material to ignite or catch fire
easily.
4. It has a flash point of any temperature below
37.8 ºC.
5. It has a flash point higher than 37.8 ºC and
