It provides a safety net for those who cannot support themselves financially. It is
designed to bring their income up to a prescribed level to meet their basic needs.
Over 50 % of the applicants applying for CSSA are the aged people. The others
are suffering from permanent disabilities , ill health , single-parent families or
unemployed people with financial difficulties.
➢ SSA (Social Security Allowance Scheme)
It is to guarantee severely disabled people and the elderly above 65 which can
afford the basic expenses of living.

➢ ERS (Employees Retraining Scheme)
It is provided for most low-educated and low-skilled workers tend to earn low
wages in a knowledge economy.

government has implemented the statutory minimum wage from 1 May 2011,
which is $37.5/hr in 2021. This can ensure that grassroots labour can have a
deserved salary reducing the income gap of different social gaps.
