DEFINITIONS 31 Wash basin (lavatory): a sanitary appliance for washing the upper parts of the body. 32 Pedestal: a column resting on the floor used to vertically support a wash basin, 33 Half pedestal: a piece mounted directly on the wall under a wall hung wash basin in order to conceal the supply and waste pipes and fittings. 34 Pedestal wash basin: a wash basin supported vertically by a pedestal. 35 ‘Wall hung wash basin: a wash basin mounted directly on the wall. 36 ‘Vanity basin (counter top basin): wash basin for installation into a horizontal surface. 37 Hospital basin: wash basin that has a smooth easy to clean surface without, tapholes or overflow hole for use where hygiene is of prime importance. 4, CLASSIFICATION 41 Wash basins shalll be classified according to the method of fixing as: 411 Pedestal wash basins. 412 ‘Wall-hung wash basins. 5. REQUIREMENTS ' Wash basins shall meet the following requirements: 51 Materials and quality SAUDI ARABIAN STANDARD. SASO 1476/1999 52 5.2 5.2.1 5.2.2 5.2.3 5.24 5.25 5.2.6 527 Ceramic wash basins, pedestals and half pedestals shall be manufactured from: vitreous china and shall comply with the Saudi standard mentioned in 2.1. Wash basins, pedestals and half pedestals made of materials other than vitreous. china shall comply with the design and construction requirements of this standard in addition of complying with the requirements of their own materials. Design and construction Dimensions. Bowls of wash basins shall be of one piece construction and shall comply with the dimensions given in Table 1 as indicated in Figure 1. Fixing dimensions Fixing dimensions for wash basins shall be as shown in Figure 2 and Table 2. Waste hole Connecting dimensions for waste holes of wash basins shall be as shown in Figure3 and Table 3. Overflow hole Wash basins shall be supplied in either of the following conditions: (a) the basin shall be supplied without an overflow hole; or (b) the basin shall be supplied with an overflow hole having an operative area of not less than 300 mm? with a vertical height of not less than 10mm. It shall be located completely below the spillover level of the basin. Note: Unless otherwise specified by the purchaser at the time of order the basin shall be supplied with an overflow hole: Pedestals Pedestals for wash basins shall comply with the following requirements: (a) They shall be recessed at the back to take supply and waste pipes and fittings. (b) They shall rigidly and adequately support the wash basin. (c) The combined height of wash basin and pedestal shall be (830 mm + 5%) mm. measured from the top of the rim at the front of the basin to the floor level. Half pedestals Half pedestals for wash basins shall comply with the following requirements: (a) They shall be recessed at the back to conceal the supply and waste pipes and fittings. (b) They shall be provided with means to be mounted on the wall. Soap sinking(s) SAUDI ARABIAN STANDARD SASO 1476/1999 5.28 6. 62 63 64 WW 12 73 Any soap sinking(s) if provided shall adedjudtely drain into the bowl or into the overflow. ‘Tap platform Where tap holes are provided, the underside of the tap platform around the holes shall be so constructed as to provide a flat area around the center of the hole with a maximum thickness of 20 mm and a minimum diameter of 60 mm in order to accommodates the nut and washer of the tap. The level of the top of the platform which accomodates the supply taps shall not be below the spillover level of the basin irrespective of the position of the overflow hole. MARKING Every wash basin, pedestal and half pedestal shall be marked in a legible, readily identifiable, and permanent way with the following: Manufacturer's name or his registered trade mark or both. The mark shall be located so as to. be visible as much as possible after the appliance is installed. In case of difficulty in finding an appropriate visible location, the marking shall be located elsewhere. The number of the Saudi standard mentioned in 2.1. Testing methods The tests shall be carried out according to the Saudi standard mentioned in 2.2. Tests Dimensions and tolerances tests shall be carried out on samples. RULES OF ACCEPTANCE AND REJECTION Each imported consignment shall be accompanied with a certificate indicating its conformity to all the requirements of this standard, but for local consign - ments a certificate shall be issued by the manufacturer at the request of the purchaser. SAUDI ARABIAN STANDARD SASO 1476/1999 82 ‘The group shall bé consideréd Coniplyinig With this standard if its representative samples pass all the tests, 83 If the representative sample does not pass any of the tests, two new samples shall be taken from the same group, and all the tests shall be carried out on each sample. The group shall be considered complying with this standard if each of the two new samples passes all the repeated tests, otherwise the group shall not be considered complying with this standard.
