New feature in DriveSize,

Questions and answers

Q: The impact with bigger motors is smaller than for the small motors,
right?
A: Yes, the smaller motor has a bigger temperature margin that can be utilized.

Q: Does the new DriveSize also calculate correct margin for VC405-
Spec. ins. at e.g. 690V?
A: Margin for VC405 is already included in Motsize.

Q: How many % of the temperature rise is being utilized?

A: 100% and then using the standard derating factors programmed into drivesize. The temperature rise
is based on test so they are very accurate.

Q: Can the “utilize” be used for Ex-motors?

A: No, the option will disappear if you chose an EX-motor.

Q: Are the motors limited to the nominal power?

A: No

Q: How DriveSize takes care for dimensioning, if drive has an active

front end. Meaning, that voltage drop via drive can be prevented by
boosting the DC link?
A: If it is in that specific drive programming in drivesize then it will affect the selection.
Q: For NXR or HXR motor selection is it correct to use DriveSize or
should Cuusamo be used?
A: No info regarding this.

Q: Is it ok utilizing the margin and a Class F temperature rise? NEMA MG1

Part 31 allows class F rise?
A: Yes

Q: What inverters are concerned, Only ACS880 or other ABB inverters?

A: Utilizing the Temp reserve only affect the motor. Then is the Drive specific margins and deratings
added. So all drives.

Q: For ATEX LV motors when the customer request ambient temp 50°C
we know that 40°C is the limit for ATEX motors how to solve this
request?
A: This is outside the scope of this webinar. I have no answer to this

Q: What do we tell to the customer that we sell smaller motors all at

sudden?
A: It is up to you to decide if you want to use the temp reserve for a customer or not. If you believe such
a question will arise then don’t utilize it. If you have a situation where we are in a high competitive
situation you should use it to make our offer more attractive

Q: when we need to use the tmp. reserve "keep"?

A: It is up to you if you want to offer bigger or smaller motor. If there is no preference I would say use it.

Q: What is the effect of the motor lifetime when we are working so

close to the nominal power in a specific process?
A: higher temp = shorter life time. Exactly how much is impossible to say.

Q: Is this also in customer version / online version?

A:I think there is only one version.

Q: Will IE2 motors still available from Central Stock?

A: This is outside my scope of knowledge but I would guess yes.
Q: I have selected a 115kW IE3 M3BP with selection Utilize and F rise.
Selection came with a 110kW motor, why if you say nominal DOL power
is the limit?
A: I was wrong, this info was told to me. Apparently more than nominal power is possible

Q: Utilize" also considers Amb. temp. >40ºC and height >1000 m, right ?
A: I would assume so, As stated before this is a change of the temp rise of the motor. Everything that
affected the sizing is still there, we just start from a different point.

Q: Will SynRm be having this feature?

A: No
