The Didgeridoo
The didgeridoo is a traditional instrument
of the Aborigines, the first people living in
Australia. It has a long history. Some
studies of rock paintings show that
people invented it a thousand years ago.

Aboriginal people make didgeridoos with

the help of termites, sometimes called
white ants. Termites eat eucalyptus trees
and leave them empty inside. Then people use these trees to produce
instruments. A typical didgeridoo is usually over one metre long. That's why
musicians often play it sitting down. The sound of a didgeridoo is low, deep and
very relaxing.

Didgeridoos are not only nice to listen to, they are also colourful works of art.
Aboriginal people use natural paints to decorate them with different pictures.
These are often Australian animals, for example kangaroos or crocodiles. But
they don't paint the helpful termites.

9.1. What do some studies say about the age of the didgeridoo?
Some studies say that the didgeridoo is _____________________________ .

9.2. Why do people often sit down when they play the didgeridoo?
People often play the didgeridoo in this way, because ___________________ .

9.3. What can you usually see in the paintings on traditional didgeridoos?
You can see ________________________________________________________

Subject: Online materials

Hi Paweł,
In our last class you asked me to suggest some good online materials to learn English.
I'm sending you a link to an interesting channel. It's called ‘English with Mr Marker’.
Mr Marker always makes funny drawings when he teaches vocabulary or grammar. This is
very helpful because you can learn new things quickly. He posts two new videos every week,
so there's a lot to watch and study.
I hope this can help.

All the best

Welcome to my channel!
I can't believe it, but my channel is already three years
old. I started posting videos for my students when I
worked as an English teacher in Japan. Now I've got
over two hundred videos to share. I hope you like them.
Teaching English is my great passion, but I also write
songs and I'm mad about comics.
