Online Mode of Education : Good or Bad

- by Shubham Jadia

The Question arises during this difficult time of Covid-19 Pandemic is that, “Is the
Online mode of Education good for the students?”
One reason why there's such a lot discussion around online learning is that there are
several measures and impersonate benefits and uses of online learning. Some of the
foremost necessary ones are: its effectiveness in educating students, its use
as skill development, its value-effectiveness to combat the rising cost of post
secondary education, credit equivalency at the post pedagogy level, and therefore
the risk of providing a world category education to anyone with a
broadband interrelations.
The academic system across the globe has vastly been affected due to natural
breakout of COVID-19, it forced to shut down of
educational institutions, that adversely affected student fraternity across the world.
Due to its contagious nature, COVID-19 demanded containment
and implemented isolation that staggeringly affected personal interaction
of lecturers and students. Within the absence of primordial schools teaching
and matched interaction, computer-based learning has emerged as nearest substitute
for offline teaching.
Online learning could be a style of distance learning or distance education, that has
long been a vicinity of the yankee1 education system, and it's become the
biggest sector of distance learning in recent years strictly online courses are courses
delivered entirely over the net, and hybrid or homogenized learning
combines ancient face-to-face categories, learning socially over the net, and learning
supported by different technologies.
The lifespan earning gap between high school graduates and faculty graduates is
continuous to widen. At identical time, the value of faculty tuition is rising quicker
than inflation and conjointly the student loan debt is quickly increasing. As of 2014,

the full national student loan debt is over one trillion bucks. Several students and
educators believe that online learning are often a good tool in combating the rising
value of post secondary education by spreading the value of a category over a far
larger variety of scholars compared to the normal setting, dividing the value by tens or
many thousands of scholars as opposition dozens.
Learning effectiveness must be the first measure by which online education is judged.
If we can‘t learn in online as we can in traditional classrooms, then online education
itself is suspect, and other clearly critical issues, such as access, student and faculty
satisfaction, and (dare we say it) cost effectiveness are largely irrelevant. Indeed,
when online learning was first conceived and implemented, a majority of educators
believed that it could never be as good as face-to-face learning. Many still do. In fact,
however, we now have good and ample evidence that students generally learn as
much online as they do in traditional classroom environments.

Special Takeaways

 Students those who took all or a part of their course online, performed higher, on
average, than those taking a similar course through primordial 2 face-to-face
instruction.
 Effects sizes were larger for studies within which the web instruction was
cooperative or instructor-directed than in those studies wherever online learners
worked severally.
 Most of the variations within the approach within which completely different
studies enforced online learning didn’t have an effect on students learning
outcomes considerably.
 The effectiveness of online learning approaches seems quite broad across
completely different content and learner sorts.

As a matter of fact, e-learning has emerged as a brand new approach of enhancing the
learning method wherever social media might supplement improve the learning
output. The findings of the study can facilitate instructional establishments and policy

Methodology3

The result of information technology on human life is large and its role in education

too can not be subsided. In the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic, the
contribution of knowledgeable information technology has gained momentum due
to closure of educational establishments that raises challenges for students’
learning. Throughout this quarantine time information technology is serving the
solutions for the continuing learning method through innovative and learning
management systems.
Educational institutions and students across the globe have accepted and
appreciated the online platform of learning. The explanations of
this acceptability are easy use, learning flexibility and manageable setting. However,
despite its multiple plus points there are quite a few limitations of e-
learning like social isolation, face to face interaction between lecturers and
students, connectivity problems, etc. Now, at the hour of pandemic crisis, most of the
academic institutions are exploring and approaching towards e-learning to
form it straightforward for students to figure out at new traditional. Also, varied e-
teaching software are being explored by lecturers or educators to
bring most attainable ease for their students.

Reviews

As far as “Perceived ease Use of E-learning” is perturbed, the study finds that 52.2%

of the scholars believe that e-learning platforms measures are user friendly, while
32.1% of the sample respondents were neutral. 68% of the
scholars have determined that through e-learning system we are able
to simply access the mandatory info, whereas 19% of the sample respondents were

neutral and 13% of the scholars have opined that they're unable to explore the
necessary info through e-learning system.

Pros and Cons of Online Learning

There are advantages and disadvantages to every type of learning environment.

Online Education ‘Pros’ are often divided into four parts:

 Convenience
 Less extortionate5
 Technology
 Additional avails

Online Education ‘Cons’ are often divided into four parts:

 Limited Social Interaction

 Technology value and programming
 Effectiveness of Assessments
 Problematic for Instructors

Scholars have to analyze both the pros and cons factors which contribute greatly to
making an informed decision about the direction of his/her career path. Scholars have
to decide, how they are going to accomplish their goals: online, in the classroom or a
combination of both.

Challenges

5
Well being or benefits
There are serious challenges to qualify and effectiveness in online learning that
mostly stay unaddressed due to overflowing self-congratulatory and feel-good
conscience. Comparing face-to-face learning with online learning brings forth
important deficiencies within the online mode like lack of human connect, absence of
opportunities of cooperative learning, teacher superintendence and also the most
glaring being lack of opportunities for active learning in advanced subjects like
science and arithmetic.

Modality and Tactics6

It has been ascertained that generally to overcome the dearth of their physical

presence lecturers go into long winding explanations of the concepts in an virtual
class, leaving learners passive, bored, and ultimately distracted, clarifies by a lecturer
at the University of California in Berkley. The online class ought to have a well-
planned sequence of activities for ‘active engagement’ that enables the proneness of
opportunities for interaction and hand-on, experiential learning.
Some of the strategies which would help in creating opportunities for active learners
engagement with peers should be:
 Competence, Self-determination and Relatedness
 Technology: A teacher can successfully meet academic and social needs by using
the various technology.
 Give learners a choice: In an online class, the teacher can enhance learner
motivation, interest, and involvement by allowing them to choose ‘how to learn’.
 Synergetic Learning7: A teacher could host their asynchronous assignments on these
collaborative platforms such as Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Hangouts, MS
Teams, SlideShare, Minecraft8, Kahoot, Mural, Voice Thread, Edmodo9, Skype, etc.
and make it an immersive learning experience.
 FeedbackTechnique: It gives suggestions to enhance the determined processes,  by
telling learners how they'll improve the assignment that has
been finished. analysis reveals that students hardly return to their assignments to
examine teachers’ suggestions and comments.

Conclusion

The present study analyses the perception of students towards e-learning throughout
the currently ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The study reveals that the references of
scholars for e-learning as it provides them abundant freedom to attach with their
lecturers, fellow students and have interaction with their study materials at the
comfort and suppleness of area and time. The straightforward access of study
resources is found to be one of the major reasons for the students to pick e-learning.
The study indicates that e-learning technology permits simple info access resulting in
positive perspective formation of students towards it. The challenges of quality online
learning will be managed sooner than later due to the inherent transparency of the
medium. Teaching requires various tasks to be accomplished in the different phases of
planning, implementation, and reflection, no matter whether the class is taught Online
or Offline.
