BACKGROUND:
Autonomous Vehicles (AV) are believed to be a transport disruptive technology that if
adopted will change the way travel (urban and intercity) looks, functions, and interacts with
the environment. There will continue to be a market and need for human-driven vehicles and
for mass transport, but their share will diminish. There may come a point that all vehicles are
autonomous.

INSTRUCTIONS:
You will develop a set of performance measures (PMs) for the following scenario: AVs are to
be adopted in the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman (DSA) metropolitan area. The governments will
invest in the needed infrastructure, technology, and regulations. Your primary task is to
develop the necessary performance measures (PMs) to help the units of government make the
above scenario a successful reality. Among essential things, you will need to be aware of
what the characteristics of good performance measures are (as discussed in class and covered
in the Chapter in Sinha and Labi’s book). As necessary, you will do sufficient research to
familiarize yourself with the AV technology to make your PMs suitable.

STEPS:
First, you will make a suitable statement on the goals (i.e., develop suitable goal first. discuss
with the instructor if you need). That is, what would be an appropriate goal for such a major
undertaking. Then you will develop a short list of suitable objectives (again, you will discuss
those with the instructor as you feel necessary). Note that the main part of your work in this
HW is the set of PMs that you will develop given the selected goals and objectives. The PMs
will be what your team believes the transport authorities in the DSA area should adopt.

DELIVERABLES:
Your submission will include a statement of the goal(s), a list of the objectives, and a list of
PMs with rationales (justifications). Content aside, your submission must look professional.
