A letter from a Fukushima fisherman

To whom it may concern

I am normal Japanese fisherman living and working near Fukushima. As the

Japanese government announced that they will discharge the nuclear waste
water to the ocean, which will greatly affect my fishing environment and the
health of my family. As far as I know, the chemicals which the waste water
contains can
increase the risk of various types of cancers and genetic diseases. What’s more,
the genetic mutation may occur too. Consequently, I wrote this letter in order to
ask you the WHO (world health organization ) to have a thorough evaluation
and prediction of ecosystem and the health condition of the local residents.

Though most people lived in FUKUSHIMA are farmers and fishermen which
are obviously not decent, we still believe that we should have the equal rights
to live in a health environment as
the office managers in Tokyo. In doing so, the state sacrificed the welfare of
the People of FUKUSHIMA to achieve what they call public safety. Days and
nights, we lived in the fear and
Insecurity. Looking at the surging waves and churning fish, everything in
FUKUSHIMA seems the same but actually it is not the same. The abandoned
nuclear power station in the distance is a constant reminder that we are a stain
on our country's past and the apart they try to get rid of.

Although the government’s media have been emphasizing that after a series of
treatment, the nuclear residue in the waste water has been almost eliminated.
The processed sea water will be impossibly harmful to the creatures near the
FUKUSHIMA.” However, in the end, it's us the local residents who suffer the
worst consequence and your impossibility. After experiencing the catastrophic
tsunami and earthquake here 10 years ago, we can not afford any potential
danger. The world has taken too many of our precious things. These time, we
want to speak for ourselves not a resident in FUKUSHIMA,not a citizen in
JAPAN but a simple creature lived in this island. We have no obligations to
untertake this risk for the governments.

All of us in Fukushima would like you to hear from us as soon as possible and
send someone to make our case so that we can get wider attention from the
outside world.

Yours sinserely
Nobita
