Climate Change;
 What is it? And how it happens?

Climate change also known as ‘Global Warming’ is a long-term change in the

earths overall temperature with massive and permanent ramifications.

Earths atmosphere consists of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen and other gases
known as ‘greenhouse gases’ such as carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane.

Greenhouse gases like CO2 trap the energy and send it right back to the earth
heating it up even more. This is known as the ‘greenhouse effect’.

Less greenhouse gas is good. Large greenhouse gas is bad.

What increases greenhouse gases?
Some of the main human activates that emits greenhouse gases are fossil fuel
burning, animals waste and deforestation, and waste pollution.

• Burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas are some of the largest
pollutant of carbon emission.
• Excrement from live stocks produces toxic gases such as H2S, NH3, CH4.
• Deforestation get rids of plant, trees and forest which are the main things that
actually absorb CO2.

What is sustainable development?
Sustainable development can be defined as development that meets the
needs of the present without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their own needs.

Aspects of SD:
There are many aspects of SD know as sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Few of them are listed below,

• Technology.
• Providing Equality.
• Improving Quality of Life.
• Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Approach.
• Promoting Environmental Education and Awareness.
Effects of climate change on SD

 Rising Oceans
 Severe Storms
 Lost of Species
 Temperature Rise
 Not Enough Food

 More Health Risks

 Increased Drought

 Poverty and Displacement

Why Should We Care?
The earth temperature has risen 1.50 F in last century and is estimated to
rise by 0.50 to 8.60 F over the next century.
Animal and plant life are struggling to adapt to these conditions for
survival. Even if one of these species goes extinct , it can create a domino
effect. So if there are no plants that would mean no animals and hence no
humans.
OPPORTUNITIES AT OUR HANDS:
The links between climate change and sustainable development are strong.
Poor and developing countries, particularly least developed countries, will
be among those most adversely affected and least able to cope with the
anticipated shocks to their social, economic and natural systems.
The Three Speed Bumps;

Prevention:
• Use of renewable resources.
• Reduction of carbon footprint.
• Proper home insulation.

Retraction:
• Use of negative emission technology.
• Planting more tree.
• Solar geo-engineering.

Adaption:
• Developing ways to live on warmer planet.
• Using sea walls and drought resistant crops.
• More resilient to vulnerabilities.
