What I have learned so far

Pp. 210

Why is the international community's recognition on the youth's role in nation-building important in
the country's politics about youth empowerment and participation?

- The youth’s participation in governance, including opportunities for engagement, is dependent on

different political, socioeconomic and cultural contexts.

- Young me and women are excluded from policy development given their disillusionment with political
leadership and political institutions. This situation leaves political activism o the youth as under-or
unrepresented in formal groupings/ organizations.

pp. 214

Why are governance, development, and youth engagement inextricably linked? Give examples
relevant to Philippine politics and society.

- I think it’s because youth engagement especially in governance can bring a development in the
country. Example is the youth today because of their social media accounts that has many followers,
they can bring change by sharing some advice or opinions about a certain topic that their followers
might believe.

pp. 217

1. How important are the legal and institutional Frameworks in the prospect of youth political
engagement and empowerment?

- Based on my research, Legal and institutional framework is a broad concept and it concerns the
functions of governments, private enterprises, political jurisdictions, judicial systems, legislative bodies,
and regulatory agencies. So I think, this is important so that they can encourage the youth to be more
participated in the government development. Also the youth see it all, they are the future they tend to
continue the legacy or discontinue it if it’s not that helpful in the community.

2. Do you think there is a need to create more laws and institutions to improve the condition of the
youth? Why?

- I think it’s enough I mean the child crime rate is not good since some youth abuse it, they tend to made
crimes because they know that they don’t go to jail. Also the child the abuse when it comes to
education, the teacher can’t or doesn’t have rights to scold or e mad at the students because they
consider it as ‘child abuse’.

Reflect Upon

pp. 209

Have you participated in your community's affairs? Why have you done or not done so?

- I remember when I voluntary participated to clean the plaza for the fiesta, other than that I haven’t
done anything related to government since I have also an obligation in my home and study.
pp. 213

What are the issues relevant to participation and governance that you experience as a youth? How do
you work out these issues?

- I haven’t experience it personally but I think it’s the lack of trust to the youth. Like not giving them a
budget for a specific program that they want to do for the society.

pp. 217

Which of the activities mentioned have you participated in? What are some of those you would like to
be involved with soonest? Why?

- I haven’t participated in any of the activities listed above but I want to participate in Service-learning so
that I can help students when it comes to their learning. Also by this I can help even the children that
doesn’t go to school, that way they can still be able to learn without going to school.
