- Marie was born in Sweden
- Marie came from a whole family of performers with her mom being a famous
ballet dancer and her father being a famous choreographer
- she was a Swedish ballet dancer if the Romantic ballet era
- she was buried in Père Lachaise Cemetery
- the arabesque was created by Marie and established new standards of
technique that every professional dancer must reach
La Sylphide
- Marie danced in the ballet “La Sylphide” choreographed by her father Filippo
Taglioni in 1832
- Marie was the first performer on pointe in a ballet and made pointe more
common
- her first rise to fame was when she performed in the ballet La Sylphide
- Marie was the star of the ballet because she changed the style to a long and
white tutu
Fun Facts
- At the age of 6 Marie developed a hunchback, which caused her first dance
teacher to discourage her from furthering her career as a dancer, but her
father thought otherwise and taught her himself
- she was the first dancer who danced a full piece on pointe
- Marie got married had three children but after three years decided to divorce
due to her frequent travels for her dance career
- On June 19, 1822 Marie was cured of her hunchback
