ACTIVITY 13 (F)

PINEDA, NEIL ARIES E.

BSMT- 1 ECHO

1. A gyro compass is a compass used for navigation, it contains a gyroscope motor that
registers in to the direction of true north along with the surface of the earth, and it is free
from using magnetism.

2. The horizontal axis represents the flat or leveled track of an object especially on
gyrocompass.

3. Seeking an equilibrium direction under the combined effects of the force of gravity and
the daily rotation of Earth.

4. A fiber optic gyrocompass is a compass and instrument of navigation. ... The compass
comprises a fiber optic gyroscope sensor, which links to a computer and then locates north.
This in turn links to a compass readout to provide a heading. It has very high reliability
and requires little maintenance during its service life.

5. Gyroscopic inertia which enables the rotor to maintain the direction of its plane of
rotation unless an external force of sufficient amplitude alters its direction

6. GYRO COMPASS MAINTENANCE:

● IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT GYROCOMPASS SHOULD RUN CONTINUOUSLY.

● LATITUDE AND SPEED CORRECTION SHOULD BE APPLIED.
● REPEATERS SHOULD BE SYNCHRONISED AT LEAST ONCE A WATCH.
● GYRO ALARMS TO BE CHECKED DAILY.
● GYRO COMPASS SHOULD BE COMPARED WITH MAGNETIC COMPASS
FREQUENTLY.
