Pastoral Notes
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
On this first day of the year, we honour The Blessed Virgin
Mary, Mother of God. This Solemnity is a suitable time for us
to learn from Mary to follow God, to listen to Him and to be
perseverant in our particular calling. If we are wondering how
to persevere on our particular path, perhaps a story can help
us to grasp that idea: CCCB Daily Readings
One man had a great desire to please God. He prayed day and First Reading: Isaiah 60.1-6
night and once he heard the voice from above saying: “I want Psalm: 72
you to go and push that large stone.” Second Reading: Ephesians 3.2-3a, 5-6
Gospel: Matthew 2.1-12
The man woke up and was so inspired. He ran to find the stone
and started pushing it. He pushed and pushed, but nothing
happened. He kept pushing the rock all day long.
Fr. Pilmaiken’s Updates
The next day he did the same, but the stone did not move at CHRISTMAS OFFICE HOURS
all. For three months the man kept pushing the huge boulder. Thursday, December 30 – Friday, December 31
Finally, he got tired and stopped pushing. 9:30am – 4:00pm
That night he had another dream, and he heard the voice Saturday, January 1 - Closed
saying: “Why did you stop pushing the stone?” Monday, January 3 – Closed
Regular office hours resume on Tuesday, January 4
“Nothing happened and the boulder is still there,” answered
the man. St. Anthony’s Parish is looking to re-establish regular
Eucharistic Adoration. Friday and Saturday Adoration
“Nothing happened? Look at you! You have become so much will resume in the Chapel effective December 10. See the
more focused and stronger. You built up your muscles. You are posters in the church for information on how to register to
a changed man now! Pushing has transformed you! Besides, I be an adorer. Please note that our last day of Adoration
did not tell you to move the stone. I just told you to push it. will be Thursday December 23. We will resume on
When the time comes, I’ll move it Myself!” Thursday January 6.
Mary went through many difficult times in her life, from the
Annunciation, to having to move to Bethlehem, to having to Livestream Sunday 10:30am available here
escape to Egypt, to see her son whipped and crowned with YouTube
thorns, and nailed to a cross and die. But she continued on https://www.youtube.com/c/StAnthonysCatholicChurchCalgaryAB
moving forward. Facebook.com/stanthonysyyc
Like Mary, bear all hardships with your eyes fixed on God.
When the time comes, your deliverance will be from the Lord.
