2. Applied Snell’s law in solving problems Application 2

Question
A triangular prism with apex angle of 60° if the angle of incidence
from air on one side of the prism is 60° and the second angle of
incidence inside the prism is 27.23°. Calculate the refractive index of
the prism material.

Mark scheme

Mark Answer
1 A = 𝛉 1 +𝛉 2 ∴ 60 = 𝛉1 +27.23 ∴ 𝛉1 = 32.77°
∵n1 sin𝛟1 =n2 sin𝛉1
1 1×sin60 = n2sin32.77
n2= 1.6
