Scott Oelkers: Domino’s App Feat Hatsune Miku (TV commercial)

https://youtu.be/yPuI4l0jK7s

Everybody loves pizza. This is a fact. And ever since the dawn of Man we have strived to make those
things we love even better.

Pizza, however, has been somewhat of a tricky one. Several attempts were made over the last
decades: we tried the cardboard triangle to put our pizza portions on, a lot of pizza places still use
the plastic pizza bone that looks like a little table which nobody knows what that does... pineapple
almost succeeded in satisfying a lot of pizza enjoyers. But we never quite reached pizza perfection –
that is, until now. The secret? Add Hatsune Miku, a virtual android teenage girl idol singer, to your
pizza experience.

We hear a triumphant orchestral tune. Then, Scott Oelkers himself, president of Domino’s Pizza,
introduces himself to us. He can barely contain his excitement as a Miku fan: the minds at Domino’s
did it. You can now use your everyday phone to order, pay, and overall enhance your pizza time with
several Hatsune Miku features that allow you to take selfies with her or even turn the pizza box into
a stage Miku can sing and dance on. Pizza is now complete. As Scott himself says: very cool.

Today, the flow of aether dangerously leans towards Hatsune Miku. This could probably be averted
by adding some competition to the pizza app sphere in the form of classic characters such as Tony
Soprano, Jack Nicholson, Will Smith or Dorothy Zbornak from the Golden Girls TV series. However
would these mascots, in their fragile human condition, ever be able to dethrone the virtual
perfection that Miku represents?
