Shock Definitions
Hypovolemic Loss of circulating volume related to internal or external loss of body fluid

Cardiogenic Inability of the heart to pump effectively

Obstructive Obstruction of forward blood flow


Distributive Broad category of shock characterized by the maldistribution of circulating volume,
including:
> Neurogenic: Loss of sympathetic tone related to a traumatic spinal cord
injury
> Anaphylactic: Activation of the immune response due to an allergic reaction

Septic Altered immune response related to an infectious process
