Satellite
The newest, highly capable satellite
design in the Boeing product portfolio

In 2012, Boeing introduced the newest satellite design in its product portfolio, the
Boeing 702SP. The 702SP operates across a wide range of payload power. The 702SP
features all electric propulsion, which minimizes spacecraft launch mass and maximizes payload
capability for NASA missions. The electric propulsion design is also highly efficient, allowing for
lower cost deep space mission capabilities. In addition, 702SP also features a next-generation
avionics architecture, which simplifies operations and provides improved access to data for
evaluation of the spacecraft’s health, and greater mission flexibility.
The 702SP’s lightweight system design accommodates for launch on most commercial launch
systems. Because of its lower mass, two 702SP satellites can be launched on a single Falcon 9 or
other low cost launch vehicle, resulting in a cost savings of up to 50 percent when compared with
existing launch options. Boeing is pleased to offer the 702SP to the NASA Rapid III catalog.
