John Lennon

Born in Liverpool, England, by the time Lennon was 5 years old, John he had been
abandoned by his parents, so instead went to live with Mimi and George Smith, his
aunt and uncle, in Woolton, England. He lived near a local Salvation Army
orphanage, and loved to explore its garden, which was known as Strawberry Fields.

The great rock 'n' roll rebel and iconoclast was once a choir boy. His first instrument
was the banjo. Harmonica was the first instrument Lennon learned to play. However he
was a epiphone casino (guitar) player in the band, The Beatles. . His friend once asked
Lennon what was the best lyric he ever wrote. His reply was, "All you need is love."

Being one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music, he hated his own
voice and considered songwriting as a torture.
An integral part of the Beatles band, they had to stop touring because of the physical
danger that John Lennon put them into by commenting on Christianity. By stating
that, “The Beatles were bigger than Jesus” in 1966, Lennon caused global
controversy.
Lennon had initially asked for Jesus Christ, Adolf Hitler, and Mahatma Gandhi to
appear on the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, with the other
celebrities and historical figures, but all three of those suggestions were nixed.

When Lennon lived in America, the FBI studied all of his lyrics and analyzed all
television appearances in an effort to find a legal reason to deport him because of the
nuisance he had caused.
He started with wearing what we know today as the “granny” frames. This made
them his signature look for the rest of his life. He was a tea and a coffee addict,
sipping 20-30 cups per day.

He was a big fan of the game, Monopoly. The bedroom where Lennon spent hours
playing his guitar has been recreated, with singles by Elvis Presley and a poster of The
King on the wall.
Lennon liked to sleep in an old coffin. His talent manager had an old, abandoned
coffin on the premises of his coffee bar, The Jacaranda. As a gag, Lennon would
sometimes nap in it.

Lennon was murdered by an obsessed fan that shot him four times at a close range at
the age of 41.
