COMMISSION ON HIGHER EDUCATION § Sc > EASE S oheo Cental ottes “p,mvon0s secon Mee, ye 8 MEMORANDUM FROM THE CHAIRPERSON FOR PRESIDENTS/HEADS OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS CHED REGIONAL DIRECTORS SUBJECT : SAMPLE OR SUGGESTED SYLLABI FOR THE NEW GENERAL EDUCATION (GEC) CORE COURSES DATE : October 3, 2016 In accordance with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act No. 7722, otherwise known as the “Higher Education Act of 1994" and per CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 20, series of 2013, the “General Education Curriculum: Holistic Understandings, Intellectual and Civic Competencies”, the CHED through the Technical Panel for General Education (TPGE), commissioned technical experts to develop sample or suggested course syllabi with up-to-date and appropriate readings, materials, and resources for each of the eight (8) General Education (GE) core courses and one (1) mandated course, or a total of nine (9) GE courses. The syllabi are in English and Filipino. The Filipino translation was commissioned by CHED to the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF). To assist higher education institutions (HEIs) transition to the new GEC, the sample or suggested course syllabi can be used as guides, the copies can be downloaded from the CHED website (www.ched.gov.ph). The new GEC shall be implemented starting Academic Year 2018-2019. Public and private HEIs may adopt the sample or suggested course syllabi in the teaching and in the delivery of the content of the new GEC. For record purposes, the HEls shall inform the CHED Regional Offices (CHEDROs) of their implementation of the new GEC. The CHEDROs shall submit to the CHED-Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) consolidated reports on the information to be submitted by the HEIs.
