Reading Month Celebration

INTRODUCTION
“The National Reading Month serves as a reminder to us in light of our performance that we
must double our efforts to close the learning gap, particularly in the area of reading, which is the
cornerstone of learning,” said DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones. In connection with this
celebration, South City Central School is committed to support, to participate through initiating
Reading Programs that accord to the 2021 NATIONAL READING MONTH with the theme “Every
child reads amidst the challenges of Pandemic”. Teachers in different grade levels collaborated to
create series of videos of Reading Approaches accordingly. Teachers also provide easy access of
reading materials to the parents and learners. Parents were asked to join the Opening of the Reading
Program wherein parents could also learned some reading approaches.

IMPLEMENTATION PHASE
We scheduled for a virtual meeting and connected to the Parents with their child(learner) through
Google meet for those who can access and other batched were via facebook video call. We had discussed and
presented videos of the following topics ;
A. Rights of Children and role of the Parents
B. Auditory discrimination and Visual Perception
C. Left to right Movement and Language Discrimination
D. Vowel sounds
E. Consonant Sounds
F. Blending Sound
G. Marungko Approach
H. Fuller Approach
During the sounds blending presentation,
we asked both parents and learners
to say the sounds or to follow.

Teacher also instigated weekly follow


up to monitor learners’ reading progress.
