Side Loading Hydraulic Wedge Action Grips MH Series MICROTEST

Description

MH side loading hydraulic wedge action grips feature an open front design
which facilitates easy loading of large specimens. This series can accommodate
round specimens up to 30mm in diameter and flat specimens up to 35mm thick
in forces from 20kN to 600kN.

The MH Series side loading Hydraulic Wedge Grips grasp and hold a specimen in
place during testing, and provide a constant, hydraulically actuated gripping force
regardless of the applied test loads. When gripping pressure is applied, the
relative vertical position of the specimen/jaw faces remains unchanged to prevent
specimen load generation during the gripping process. The grip force will remain
constant as the design automatically compensates for specimen thickness
changes

The grips are specifically designed for static or fatigue testing applications in
MICROTEST testing systems. A variety of wedges allow the grips to be used to
test a variety of materials. Optional equipment includes a cooling/warming kit
and an external hydraulic grip supply. When used with MICROTEST servo-
hydraulic testing machines they are connected to the existing pressurized oil
supply; in other cases, such as for its use in electromechanical testing machines,
a small hydraulic power unit is required.

The size and shape of the Hydraulic Wedge Grips vary among the models.

Each grip functions independently of the other, the external hydraulic supply
providing pressure to both open and close the grips.

The shape of the jaws can be V-face for round specimens or pyramid surface for
flat specimens. The vee faces used for round specimens by design have a
reduced area at the center, which compromises their ability to absorb high
energy breaks without fracture. This grip uses a split-vee face configuration
which allows the break energy to be dissipated without damaging the faces.

The jaws are easily interchangeable. The user only

needs to remove the guiding covers by loosening the
knurling screws that secure them to the grip body and
replace the jaws without effort. For security reasons,
this operation should be made disconnecting the
hydraulic supply system.

The lubrication of the jaw face carrier is through

standard grease fitting.
