Bioinformatics Technician

As a leader in applying cutting-edge technology to animal breeding, STgenetics is seeking a motivated

Bioinformatics technician as part of the genetics and genomics research team. In this role, you will be
part of the research and development team, maintaining error-free databases and support researchers
in their roles. This position will be based in Brazil working from home office.

Title: Bioinformatics Technician

Duties:
• Timely data uploading to the database
• Monitor dataflow and quality into the database
• Perform data QC and mining the database
• Writing program scripts to extract, reformat and analyze data
• Correct and track errors/changes in the database
• Support users to extract and manipulate files
• Import/export and manipulate large datasets
• Build scripts to automate daily tasks
• Analyze high throughput NGS data
• Using bioinformatics pipelines for sequence data analyses

Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics,
computer science or related field
• Knowledge of LINUX/Unix operating system
• Expertise in handling large datasets in Unix environment
• Experienced user of high-performance computing systems
• Expertise in one or more scripting language(s) (e.g. Shell, R, Python, Perl)
• Good scripting knowledge in SQL and using of MS SQL Server suite
• Basic understanding of genetics and genomics
• Excellent attention to details
• Excellent organizational abilities
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent verbal and writing skills in English
• Familiarity with NGS data and knowledge of different sequencing platforms is a bonus
